About Continuum Estate

Continuum Estate is Tim Mondavi's personal legacy project, a Pritchard Hill winery that represents the continuation of the Mondavi family's contribution to Napa Valley winemaking after their separation from the Robert Mondavi Winery. Founded in 2005 by Tim and his sister Marcia, Continuum was conceived as a single-wine estate that would embody everything the family had learned during four decades at their father's eponymous winery. The name reflects the unbroken thread of Mondavi winemaking ambition: Robert dreamed of producing California's greatest wine, and Tim continues that dream on one of the valley's most prestigious hillsides.

The estate covers 60 acres on the slopes of Pritchard Hill, the eastern hillside above Lake Hennessey that has become the most exclusive vineyard address in Napa Valley. The vineyard shares the hill with Colgin, OVID, Chappellet, and Bryant Family, neighbors whose wines routinely earn perfect scores and sell for hundreds of dollars per bottle. The volcanic soils, steep slopes, and above-fog-line elevation produce Cabernet Sauvignon of extraordinary concentration and mineral complexity. Tim Mondavi selected this site specifically because he believed it could produce a wine worthy of the family name.

Tim Mondavi, who serves as both winegrower and managing partner, crafts a single proprietary red blend from the Pritchard Hill estate. The wine is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, blended with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and aged for over two years in French oak before release. The style reflects Tim's evolution as a winemaker: more structured and mountain-influenced than the wines he made at Robert Mondavi, with the tannic backbone and mineral complexity that Pritchard Hill naturally provides. The wine is built for aging and rewards decades of patience.

Tastings at Continuum are by appointment only, with visitors hosted on the Pritchard Hill estate for an experience that includes vineyard views and a seated tasting of current and library vintages. Tim Mondavi is frequently present and brings the perspective of someone who has witnessed the entire arc of modern Napa Valley winemaking, from his father's revolutionary vision in the 1960s to the mountain terroir that Tim now farms. The $150 tasting fee reflects the exclusivity and the Mondavi family's place in wine history.

Continuum matters because it proves that the Mondavi name did not end when Constellation Brands acquired the Robert Mondavi Winery in 2004. Tim's decision to start over on Pritchard Hill, building a new estate from the ground up rather than trading on his father's brand, is a statement of independence and ambition. The wine is excellent, the setting is spectacular, and the family story that connects it all is one of the most compelling in American wine.
