About Spring Mountain Vineyard

Spring Mountain Vineyard is the estate that served as the filming location for Falcon Crest, the 1980s television drama that brought Napa Valley's wine country glamour into American living rooms every week. The Victorian mansion that served as the show's centerpiece, the original Miravalle estate built in 1885, still stands at the heart of the property, surrounded by 225 acres of terraced mountain vineyard that are among the most dramatic and beautiful in the valley. The estate was established in its current form in 1968 and has since grown to encompass three historic properties that collectively span over a century of Napa Valley winemaking.

The vineyard covers 225 acres of steep, terraced hillside on Spring Mountain, planted across a range of elevations and exposures. The estate's size and topographic diversity are unusual for a mountain property, providing the winemaking team with fruit from dramatically different microclimates within a single estate. The highest blocks, at over 1,600 feet, produce the most concentrated and structured wines, while the lower sections contribute elegance and freshness. The combination allows for blends of genuine complexity that capture the full range of Spring Mountain's terroir.

Winemaker Jac Cole produces a portfolio that reflects the estate's unusual scale and diversity. The Elivette proprietary red blend, from the best lots across the estate, is the flagship and one of the most acclaimed wines on Spring Mountain. The Sauvignon Blanc, from the estate's cooler blocks, is one of the few mountain-grown white wines in the valley. The Syrah and Pinot Noir, from sites suited to these cooler-climate varieties, demonstrate that Spring Mountain's terroir supports more than just Cabernet. The wines are structured and age-worthy, with the mineral backbone that distinguishes mountain wines from the valley floor.

The tasting experience at Spring Mountain Vineyard is one of the most immersive in the valley. The tour includes the Victorian mansion (fans of Falcon Crest will recognize it immediately), the historic cave system, the terraced vineyards, and a seated tasting of the current portfolio. The setting is spectacular, with the mansion, the gardens, and the mountain views creating a scene of timeless beauty. The $80 tasting fee includes the full tour and experience.

Spring Mountain Vineyard matters because it preserves a remarkable piece of Napa Valley's built and natural heritage. The three historic estates that comprise the property represent different eras of the valley's history, and the Victorian mansion is one of the finest surviving examples of 19th-century Napa architecture. The Falcon Crest connection adds a layer of pop-culture significance that draws visitors who might not otherwise explore mountain wineries, and the wines reward them with quality that transcends the television association.
