About Robert Sinskey Vineyards

Robert Sinskey Vineyards is one of the most complete food-and-wine estates in Napa Valley, a certified organic and biodynamic property that has built its reputation on the conviction that wine is food and should be tasted alongside it. Founded in 1986 by Robert Sinskey (the ophthalmologist whose surgical precision found a new outlet in viticulture), the estate is now led by his wife Maria Helm Sinskey, a renowned chef and cookbook author whose culinary program has made the tasting room one of the most food-forward experiences in the valley. The focus on Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot rather than the expected Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the estate's table-first philosophy.

The estate encompasses 200 acres of certified organic and biodynamic vineyard across Carneros and the Stags Leap District, one of the largest biodynamically farmed properties in the valley. The dual-appellation sourcing provides the Pinot Noir and cool-climate wines from Carneros and the Bordeaux varieties from the warmer Stags Leap District. The biodynamic practices, which go beyond organic certification to include biodynamic preparations and farming timed to celestial cycles, produce soils of extraordinary biological health.

Winemaker Jeff Virnig produces a portfolio designed for the dinner table. The Carneros Pinot Noir is silky and food-friendly, the Stags Leap District Cabernet Franc is aromatic and savory, and the Merlot is plush and versatile. The wines are unified by their emphasis on balance and moderate alcohol, qualities that Maria Sinskey insists on because they allow the food to share the spotlight with the wine.

The tasting experience centers on food-and-wine pairing, with Maria's culinary team preparing seasonal dishes designed to showcase how each wine interacts with different flavors. The outdoor terrace, organic garden, and vineyard views create a setting that feels like dining at a farm-to-table restaurant rather than visiting a tasting room. Walk-in visitors are welcome, and the $55 fee includes the food pairing.

Sinskey matters because the food pairing program is not an add-on but the foundation of the entire operation. Maria's culinary philosophy and Jeff's winemaking work in concert, producing an experience that demonstrates why wine exists: to make meals more enjoyable and to bring people together at the table. For visitors who believe that wine is only half the story, Sinskey provides the other half.
