About Miner Family Winery

Miner Family Winery is one of the most versatile producers on the Silverado Trail, an estate that manages to produce excellent wines from an unusually diverse range of grape varieties and vineyard sources. Founded in 1999 by Dave and Emily Miner on 30 acres of Oakville land along the trail, the winery has built its reputation on a portfolio that spans from Oakville Cabernet to Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands, covering more varietal ground than most Napa estates would dare.

The estate vineyard covers 30 acres of Oakville terrain on the Silverado Trail, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and other Bordeaux varieties. But the winery's reach extends far beyond Oakville, with sourcing relationships in the Santa Lucia Highlands (for Pinot Noir), Mendocino (for Viognier), and other premium California appellations. This multi-regional approach is unusual for a Napa-based producer and reflects the Miners' belief that great wine should be sourced from the ideal terroir for each variety, regardless of county lines.

Winemaker Stacy Vogel works with this diverse fruit supply to produce wines that are consistently polished and expressive. The Oakville Cabernet and the Oracle proprietary red blend anchor the red wine program with classic Napa richness. The Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir, from one of the most acclaimed vineyard sites in the Santa Lucia Highlands, is a wine of stunning complexity and perfume. The Viognier and Chardonnay round out a white wine program that rivals the reds in quality and character.

The tasting room on the Silverado Trail offers a panoramic hilltop setting with views extending across the valley. Tastings are designed to showcase the breadth of the portfolio, with flights that pair Oakville Cabernet alongside Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir, allowing visitors to compare two of California's finest appellations in a single visit. The staff are knowledgeable about the diverse sourcing relationships and can speak in detail about how different regions shape the character of each wine. At $50, the tasting is moderately priced for the variety and quality of what is poured.

Miner's significance lies in its demonstration that a Napa Valley winery need not be limited to Napa Valley fruit. By sourcing the best available grapes from the best available regions, the estate produces a portfolio that is more diverse and more interesting than the Cabernet-only approach that dominates the valley. For visitors who want to taste across California's finest wine regions without driving hundreds of miles, Miner provides a one-stop exploration.
