About Krupp Brothers Estates

Krupp Brothers Estates is home to the famed Stagecoach Vineyard, one of the largest and most important grape sources in Napa Valley, an 800-acre property on Atlas Peak that supplies fruit to dozens of the valley's most prestigious producers. Founded in 2000 by Jan Krupp, the estate sits at elevations ranging from 600 to 1,800 feet on volcanic soils that vary dramatically across the vast property, providing different terroir expressions to each of the numerous wineries that purchase Stagecoach fruit. Under the Krupp Brothers label, the estate bottles its own wines from selected blocks that the family reserves for itself.

The Stagecoach Vineyard is extraordinary in both scale and quality. At 600 planted acres, it is one of the largest single vineyard sites in Napa Valley, yet the mountain terroir produces fruit of a quality that rivals much smaller, more famous estates. The vineyard's position on Atlas Peak provides the altitude, volcanic soils, and intense sunlight that create naturally stressed vines with small, concentrated berries. The range of elevations and exposures across the property means that wines from different Stagecoach blocks can taste dramatically different, which is why so many producers seek the vineyard's fruit.

Winemaker David Galzignato selects the finest lots from the vast Stagecoach property for the Krupp Brothers label. The Stagecoach Red is the flagship, a proprietary blend that showcases the diversity of the vineyard's terroir. The Cabernet Sauvignon, from the highest and most intense blocks, is dark and structured. The Syrah shows the peppery, dark-fruited character that the variety achieves at mountain elevation. The Chardonnay, from the cooler sections, demonstrates the vineyard's range beyond red wines.

The tasting room experience is available both at the Atlas Peak estate (by appointment) and at the downtown Napa location on Main Street, which provides walk-in access to the Stagecoach wines. The downtown room makes the mountain wines accessible without the drive to Atlas Peak, while the estate visit offers the full mountaintop experience. The $85 tasting fee at the estate includes a tour of the vast vineyard and a seated tasting, providing one of the most comprehensive mountain wine experiences available.

Krupp Brothers matters because the Stagecoach Vineyard is one of the hidden engines of Napa Valley winemaking. Fruit from this single property appears in dozens of wines that bear other producers' names, meaning that the vineyard's influence on the valley's reputation is far greater than most consumers realize. The Krupp Brothers label gives visitors a chance to taste what the family keeps for itself from one of Napa's most important and productive mountain sites.
