Founded in 2005 by Korean-born businessman Hi Sang Lee, the estate was conceived as a luxury project from the start, with no expense spared in vineyard development, winemaking, or hospitality. The name Dana comes from a Sanskrit word meaning "the virtue of generosity," a philosophy that extends to both the richness of the wines and the lavishness of the tasting experience.

The estate encompasses three distinct vineyard sites on Howell Mountain, each producing a named wine: Lotus Vineyard, Helms Vineyard, and Hershey Vineyard. The vineyards sit on volcanic soils above the fog line, where intense sunlight and thin, rocky terrain create the conditions of extreme natural stress that produce Cabernet of extraordinary concentration. Each site has a slightly different soil composition and exposure, and Philippe Melka vinifies them separately to preserve their individual characters. Philippe Melka brings his Bordeaux training and his intimate knowledge of Napa mountain terroir to each of the three wines.
