About Revana Family Vineyard

Revana Family Vineyard is a 7-acre micro-estate in St. Helena that produces a single Cabernet Sauvignon of such consistent quality that Thomas Rivers Brown, who crafts wine for over 30 Napa estates, considers it among his finest work. Founded in 1998 by Dr. Madaiah Revana, a cardiologist who was drawn to the St. Helena benchland by the same qualities that attract his more famous neighbors: deep alluvial soils, warm days, cool nights, and the long growing season that produces fully ripe Cabernet of exceptional complexity. The tiny production, rarely exceeding 600 cases, ensures that every bottle reflects the obsessive attention that small scale allows.

The 7-acre vineyard sits on the western benchland of St. Helena, planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon on soils that are among the most coveted in the valley. The benchland's gravelly alluvium, deposited by ancient waterways from the Mayacamas Range, provides excellent drainage and forces vine roots deep in search of water. The resulting stress produces small, intensely flavored berries that form the basis of a wine of remarkable concentration. The vineyard is farmed with meticulous care, and its small size means that every vine receives individual attention throughout the growing season.

Thomas Rivers Brown crafts the Revana Cabernet with the precision and restraint that have made him the most sought-after consulting winemaker in the valley. The wine is rich and structured, with the dark fruit, firm tannins, and earthy minerality that define great St. Helena Cabernet. The winemaking avoids excessive extraction or oak dominance, allowing the exceptional fruit quality to express itself fully. The result is a wine that is powerful but not heavy, concentrated but not dense, with the aging potential that only the best St. Helena sites can provide.

Tastings at Revana are by appointment only and extremely limited, reflecting the tiny production and the family's preference for quality over volume. Visitors are hosted on the estate for an intimate experience that includes a tour of the 7-acre vineyard and a seated tasting of current and library vintages. The scale is deliberately small, and the attention is genuinely personal. The $100 fee reflects the quality of the wine and the exclusivity of the experience.

Revana demonstrates that 7 acres of the right dirt, combined with a world-class winemaker, can produce wine that competes with the valley's most celebrated estates. Dr. Revana's cardiologist's precision translates naturally to viticulture, where attention to detail at every stage produces results that are greater than the sum of their parts.
