About Morlet Family Vineyards

Morlet Family Vineyards is a fifth-generation French winemaking dynasty transplanted to Napa Valley, producing wines of extraordinary refinement that draw on Burgundy, Champagne, and Bordeaux traditions in equal measure. Founded in 2006 by Luc Morlet, whose family has been making wine in France since the 19th century, the label brings a depth of multigenerational winemaking knowledge that very few Napa producers can claim. Luc trained in Champagne and Burgundy before coming to California, and his wines reflect all three French traditions: the precision of Champagne, the terroir focus of Burgundy, and the structure of Bordeaux.

The winery sources from exceptional vineyard sites across Northern California, selecting parcels that allow Luc to express his vision for each variety. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Oakville's finest benchland, the Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast's coolest hillsides, the Pinot Noir from premium Russian River and Sonoma Coast sites, and the Syrah from mountain-grown Napa Valley fruit. This multi-regional approach reflects the French negociant tradition: the winemaker's skill, not a single vineyard, defines the brand.

Luc Morlet crafts each wine with the fanatical attention to detail that five generations of family tradition demand. The Ma Princesse Chardonnay is one of the finest produced in California, barrel-fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak with the restraint of a Burgundian master. The Passionement Cabernet Sauvignon is structured and complex, showing Bordeaux-caliber blend integration. The Coup de Coeur Pinot Noir is silky and aromatic, and the Bouquet Garni Syrah brings the peppery intensity of the northern Rhone to California fruit. Each wine is produced in tiny quantities, typically under 200 cases.

Tastings are by appointment only and extremely limited, with the experience reflecting the intimate scale and artisanal approach that define the label. Luc frequently hosts visitors himself, bringing his family's multigenerational perspective to conversations about winemaking, terroir, and the differences between French and California approaches. The $150 fee reflects the quality, the exclusivity, and the depth of expertise behind every bottle.

Morlet matters because it brings an authenticity of French winemaking tradition to California that no amount of Burgundy-inspired marketing can replicate. Luc Morlet did not study French winemaking in school; he grew up in it, absorbing five generations of knowledge before applying it to the world's most dynamic wine region. The wines are the product of that heritage, and they show it in every glass.
